ResearchMonitor automates daily surveillance of user-specified research topics and delivers concise markdown briefs only when meaningful updates appear. It reads research_config.json for topics and last_checked, prompts to add topics if missing (via scripts/daily_briefing.py --add-topic), and skips work if already checked today. For each topic it issues targeted web queries (e.g., “new research papers [topic] [month/year]”, “upcoming conferences [topic] [year]”, “new journal issues [topic] [month/year]”) and consults sources like arXiv, IEEE Xplore, Google Scholar, and relevant social channels. Found items are deduplicated and filtered with scripts/daily_briefing.py --check-seen, prioritized by recency (24–48h), and suppressed if nothing significant is found. When new items exist, it compiles Title, Source, and a one-sentence relevance summary, presents the brief, marks items seen, and updates last_checked—minimizing noise while keeping researchers current.
